Holiday

Katharine Hepburn and George Cukor's long and illustrious partnership produced many great films in the 30's and 40's, one of them being Columbia's stylish, screwball comedy HOLIDAY. Based on Philip Barry's successful Broadway play, Cary Grant co-stars as the casual and fun-loving Johnny Case (Grant), a fast-rising young lawyer. He is engaged to marry Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), an heiress and member of the Social Register. Because Johnny has no social standing, there is some concern that the elder Seton might withhold his permission for the marriage, even though the rest of the family - Julia's unconventional sister Linda (Katharine Hepburn) and brother Ned (Lew Ayres) -- like him immensely. Johnny's idea of a future has them on an extended holiday that will allow them to roam the world but Julia and her father reveal that they've already made plans for his future -- in the Seton family business. Meanwhile, Linda juggles the fact that she's fallen in love with Johnny while helping to patching things up between him and her sister. With excellent supporting roles by Edward Everett Horton and Jean Dixon.
