My Sister Eileen (1955)

My Sister Eileen (1955)

The musical remake of the 1942 comedy classic, this version has a different score than the Comden & Green/Leonard Bernstein WONDERFUL TOWN, which opened on Broadway in 1953 and which was based on the original Broadway play. Jule Styne and Leo Robin were hired to write new songs. Betty Garrett and Janet Leigh star as the Sherwood sisters, two Ohio lasses who come to New York seeking careers and husbands. The terrific supporting cast includes Jack Lemmon, Bob Fosse, Kurt Kasznar, a pre-"Bewitched" Dick York, Tommy Rall, Horace MacMahon, Hal March and Richard Deacon. (Fosse also did the choreography; the first time he received screen credit for doing so.) Quine wrote the screenplay with Blake Edwards, and the whole thing was shot in Techni-color and CinemaScope by Charles Lawton, Jr.
