Taxi Driver

"You talkin' to me?" With those four chilling words, Robert De Niro etched himself into the American psyche, and Martin Scorsese ascended into the ranks of world-class directors. Working from a screenplay by Paul Schrader, they painted an indelible portrait of Travis Bickle, a burnt-out Vietnam vet who drives a cab around New York during the graveyard shift while trying to make sense of things, especially his life. The electrifying cast also includes Jodie Foster in her break-out role, and Scorsese himself as a particularly sicko passenger. Legendary composer Bernard Herrmann finished conducting the score the day before he passed away, and Michael Chapman atmospherically photographed it on the mean streets of New York. It captured the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, plus a slew of critics' awards, as well as Oscar® nominations for Best Picture, Original Score, Actor and Supporting Actress.
