Good Times

This spinoff from the hit series MAUDE centered on the trials and tribulations of the Evans family, poor but proud residents of a Chicago housing project. Hard-working patriarch James (John Amos) and his wife Florida (Esther Rolle) struggle to provide for their three children: aspiring artist J.J. (Jimmie Walker), crusader for justice Michael (Ralph Carter), and Thelma (Bern Nadette Stanis), often the voice of reason amid the chaos her two brothers create. The show's socially relevant comedy provided a look inside inner-city America during the turbulent ‘70s, addressing the issues facing families struggling to rise above poverty and discrimination.
