Big Chill, The

Lawrence Kasdan's warm comedy-drama centers on a once-close-knit group of seven friends who come together for a weekend to attend the funeral of the eighth. In reuniting, they learn where their lives have gone and where they are going. Set to a carpet of Motown and rock standards, this remains for many the defining film of the Baby Boomer generation and was nominated for three Oscars® including Best Picture, Original Screenplay and Supporting Actress (Glenn Close). The all-star cast also includes William Hurt, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Berenger, Kevin Kline, Mary Kay Place, JoBeth Williams, Meg Tilly and the unseen (except for his wrists) deceased is played by a young Kevin Costner (whose actual scene, a flashback, was cut from the final version).
