Caine Mutiny, The

Possibly the most famous of Humphrey Bogart's late films, this impressive adaptation of Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel crams as much of its sprawling saga as possible into a slim two hours. Bogey plays Captain Queeg, the new skipper of a Navy minesweeper stationed in the Pacific during WW2. His obviously disturbed behavior (and evidence of cowardice) finally force his officers to relieve him of command when the ship is in danger of sinking in a typhoon. Edward Dmytryk directs an outstanding cast that includes Van Johnson, Fred McMurray, Jose Ferrer, Lee Marvin, Tom Tully, Claude Akins, E.G. Marshall and newcomers Robert Francis and May Wynn.
