The first film in color from legendary stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen. Though modestly budgeted, it set a new standard for fantasy films at the time. Kerwin Mathews plays the famed adventurer, who sets out on a treacherous journey with bride-to-be Kathryn Grant who is shrunk by sorcerer Torin Thatcher. Forced to return to Thatcher's castle for the antidote, they encounter many startling creatures, including a cyclops, a dragon, a two-headed roc, and a sword-wielding skeleton (in the film's most celebrated sequence). Richard Eyre co-stars as a helpful young genie, and Oscar®-winner Nathan Juran directed. Bernard Herrmann, whose score is among his most renowned, was the composer. Harryhausen made two sequels for Columbia: THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1974) and SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER (1977).
