"Like sands through the hourglass... so are the Days of Our Lives." These words, spoken by late cast member Macdonald Carey, open every episode of this daytime drama, chronicaling the trials and tribulations of the citizens of the fictional city of Salem. The core families are the Hortons and the Bradys, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. Since 1965, the series has received more than 40 Emmy nominations in performance and individual achievement over the past decade, including several Emmy Awards in the acting, directing, writing and technical areas. In addition, the series has won the Soap Opera Award as "Favorite Show" fourteen times in the twenty-year history of the awards program, an award voted on by the readers of Soap Opera Digest magazine.
